Fad diets, torturous exercise plans and straightforward starvation will make you miserable, may harm your health, and won’t help you achieve weight loss in the long term. Aim to change your eating and exercise habits a little at a time, with a long term weight loss and weight maintenance goal in mind. Find healthy, low calorie foods you enjoy eating, and activities you enjoy doing, and make them part a permanent part of your lifestyle.

Another very important tip for weight loss is to plan ahead. If you arrive home from work late, when you’re tired and hungry, and you don’t have a meal organized which fits within your weight loss plan, you’re likely to grab a quick bite anyway you can, which will most likely mean a quick fix of high fat, high carb fast food. Similarly, if you don’t plan your lunch meal and you just skip it, you’re likely to head for a muffin or candy bar some time in the afternoon. When you have some spare time at the weekend, plan your entire week’s menu and do all of the shopping, so you can be confident you won’t have any little emergency situations arising during the week.
