Handy calorie counters help you design an effective, personal weight loss plan.

Although they may be perfectly sound in theory, some diet plans are too general to really be effective for some people. The great advantage in using calorie counters is that you can tailor a weight loss plan specifically to suit your height, weight, build, age, gender, daily routine, and weight loss goals.

A calorie counter which provides information on other nutritional factors such as the protein, fat, carbohydrate and fiber content of various foods, and the glycemic index, is particularly useful because you can plan a balanced, nutritionally sound eating plan. Many calorie counters also provide information on the number of calories burned during various types of activity, which makes it easy to calculate the number of calories you are consuming as against the number of calories you are converting into energy.

You’ll find plenty of great food calculators and calorie counting tools online, and most of them are free.

Setting calorie reduction and weight loss goals.

Setting a realistic goal is really one of the most important keys to weight loss success. Naturally, everybody wants to be wonderfully slim, and everybody wants it all to happen yesterday, but if you go about losing weight the right way, you’ll realize that there are limits to how fast you can lose weight, and how much weight you can lose.

Diets with an extremely low calorie intake never work. They’re unhealthy, they’re almost impossible to stick to, and ultimately you will end up putting all the weight back on, usually with interest, as soon as you go back to your usual calorie intake.

Use your calorie counting tools to work out how to reach your weight loss goal gradually and comfortably. Most calorie counting resources will provide you with tools for working out your body mass index, or BMI, which tells you what a healthy weight should be for a person of your height, age, build and gender.
